Most local matches had been called off due to the inclement weather, but Wythenhawe's 4G pitch saw them able to entertain Brotoch on a bitterly cold morning.
Up until 2 years ago Wythenshawe didn't have a Rugby team, so it is testament to some very dedicated coaches, and help from the RFU, that they are developing sides at many ages . The newly laid 4G pitch at Manchester Enterprise Academy is certainly helping.
Wythenshawe have some big lads, and with a few more months training under their belts you can see that this side has plenty of potential.
But Brotoch have one or two big lads as well and it was good to see Mekhi , a new addition this season, touching down for his first try in the Snowy conditions. Tries from Nathan and Ed followed and Brotoch went into the interval 4 tries to the good.
But Wythenshawe weren't going to be outshone and scored 2 strong tries in the second half before the referee mercifully blew up to save players and parents suffering frostbite.
As is most often the case the post game activities are as entertaining, if not more so. than the game. Players and parents alike welcomed a defrosting session in the "Firbank Pub and Kitchen" afterwards where it was good to see the Wythenshawe coaches introducing our boys to some drinking games. Ok they're only 14, so alcohol was not on the menu, but credit to Simeon in downing his pint of coke and eating a ripple bar in double quick time. You can't coach that .
